Fluid Mechanics

Fluid Mechanics
The Study of motion of fluid is referred as Fluid Mechanics. It is divided into two main classes:
           1) Fluid Statics
     2) Fluid Dynamics
Fluid Statics
Fluid static is the branch of fluid mechanics which deal with the characteristics of fluid at rest.
Fluid Dynamics
Fluid dynamics is the branch of fluid mechanics which deals with the study of fluid in motion. Basically, fluid mechanics is the study of force and motion in fluids.
What is fluid:
We know that air, water, gasoline, lubricating oil and milk etc. are obvious fluid but in contrast to them steel, diamonds rubber and paper are obvious solids. But there are some materials which are intermediate to them just like gelatin, peanut butter, cold cream, toothpaste greases etc.
So, to decide which thing is fluid we use the idea of shear stress. If we apply shear stress on solids, it will permanently resist very high shear force. But in case of fluids, they are unable to resist very high shear forces and continuously deforms on applying force.
While intermediate solids have ability to bear some extent of shear force but after that limit they also deforms.
Note: At extreme stress level even, steel can flow like a fluid.
